Green Day plan break after Soundwave 2014
Punk rockers Green Day are going on hiatus. But don't worry - we won't be seeing yet another festival cancellation. The headlining act for Soundwave 2014 will take a break after their trip down under.
"We're going to Australia, doing a tour there and then we're going to take a break," frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told BBC Radio 2.
“We haven't really been doing much. So it's just nice to kind of do some other things, y'know, when we get ready to do Green Day again, our batteries will be charged.”
The California group shot to mainstream fame with their 1994 album Dookie, which sold more than 10 million copies in the United States alone. They have since released eight successful albums, toured extensively, released a video game and even had their 2004 chart-topping album American Idiot adapted into an award-winning musical.

Last September, in possibly the most punk rock moment of
their career, Armstrong appeared to have a meltdown on stage in Las
Vegas. Thinking his set had been cut short, he launched into an
expletive-laden tirade, smashed his guitar and stormed off stage. Two days later, the band announced that a worn out Armstrong was receiving treatment for substance abuse (later revealed to be alcohol and pharmaceuticals). Green Day resumed touring and releasing albums after a short break.
Armstrong is currently pursuing a number of music and acting side projects, which he will no doubt focus on during his band's hiatus. He has most recently released a record with Norah Jones, covering songs of the Everly Brothers.
While the band won't be playing any sideshows during their Australian tour, Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah confirmed they will be playing a two-and-a-half hour long set.
